Avocados, the fruits that have stolen our hearts, are officially a game-day staple. Heaping bowls of vibrant green, creamy guacamole will land on coffee tables across America for Super Bowl Sunday. In fact, The Hass Avocado Board estimated that a whopping 104.9 million pounds of avocados were consumed during the 2017 Super Bowl at restaurants and at home. Super Bowl avocado sales exceeded $50MM nationally with in-store week-of avocado sales up as much as 41% in the Northeast region. That’s a lot of guacamole, my friend.
2018 is expected to be another BIG year for avocados, and with our home-team headed to the starting line, we’re especially excited to get our guac on! But don’t stop at avocados for your game-day promotions: there are worlds of flavor and a host of complimentary fruits and vegetables to round out an inspiring guacamole display.
Here are our three favorite unconventional guacamole recipes that will help bring avocado consumption to the next level this Super Bowl Sunday:
Recipe #1: Roasted Poblano Pepper & Charred Corn

Poblano peppers are the perfect addition to classic guacamole; when fire-roasted, these peppers add a satisfying smoky and savory flavor. Poblanos are mild in heat, so they won’t scare away dippers that can’t handle spicy foods. Plus, they’ll add a boost of vitamins A and C, fiber, potassium, and iron!
Recipe #2: Tropical Guacamole with Pineapple & Mango

Add a tropical twist to classic guacamole with fresh pineapple and mango for a pop of color and a refreshing finish! These two fruits add a nice texture and crispness to the creamy dip, and a burst of vitamin C.
Recipe #3: Zesty Watercress Guacamole

Surprisingly, or maybe not-so-surprisingly, cilantro, a must in nearly every guacamole recipe, tastes like soap to some people. That’s right. Soap. (We thought they were crazy, but turns out there’s a gene that causes the aversion!). Luckily, there are substitutes. Watercress is one of our favorite alternatives to cilantro, especially in guacamole. Watercess’ peppery flavor is a natural complement to buttery avocado, and it is the world’s most nutrient-dense food, making your zesty watercress guacamole a bona fide functional superfood!
