Part-Time Marketing Coordinator

Founded in 1919, John Vena, Inc. is a fourth-generation, family-owned-and-operated specialty produce wholesaler.  The company is located on the state-of-the-art Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market in Southwest Philadelphia.

John Vena, Inc. sources hundreds of products from more than 100 growers locally and around the world for a range of clients in retail, foodservice, and processing with a focus on specialty items including ethnic vegetables, tropical and exotic fruits, greenhouse vegetables, baby vegetables, and fresh herbs. With a range of additional services, including ripening, packing, private label, and logistics, John Vena, Inc. partners with suppliers and customers to build the highest quality, most successful specialty programs possible.

We are currently seeking an energetic and self-motivated individual prepared to take on challenging, exciting work as a core part of our marketing team. The Part-Time Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for managing the company’s social media, collateral, and e-marketing programs. With the support and direction of the Director of Marketing, the Marketing Coordinator will leverage their design and communication skills to produce exceptional content about our line of more than 500 specialty fruits, vegetables, and herbs for our social media channels and website, contributing their design expertise to the ongoing refinement of the brand aesthetic. They will build on an existing suite of electronic and print collateral to create a library of professional resources to support the sales team and educate an audience of buyers and merchandizers. The Marketing Coordinator will work closely with the buying team to monitor seasonal trends and market conditions in order to effectively and efficiently communicate opportunities and challenges to a wide range of clients through an e-newsletter. An integral member of the team, the ideal candidate will take ownership of their programs and initiate intelligent strategies to continually refine and improve them. Key Responsibilities:

Social Media

  • Manage a social media calendar for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Develop seasonally relevant, professional, accurate, and curated content for social media channels, including graphics and original photography. Explore opportunities for use of video.
  • Monitor communications on social media channels. Interact actively with audience members to organically grow reach.
  • Maintain a consistent, professional voice on social media in accordance with the organization’s Social Media Guidelines.
  • Monitor social media analytics and report monthly to the Director of Marketing on social media performance.


Collateral & Design

  • Design and create collateral materials, as directed, including researching, writing, editing, and fact-checking.
  • Manage the organization and accessibility of the organization's electronic library of media and collateral.
  • Assist in the production of collateral to support weekly/monthly promotions for major foodservice and retail accounts.
  • Design print and digital advertisements in collaboration with the Director of Marketing.
  • Provide design support for product and brand development efforts.
  • Support the sales team with written copy and media for promotions and customer requests.


E-Marketing

  • Work with the Director of Marketing to develop a monthly e-newsletter and manage its implementation going forward.
  • Maintain and update our contact database, ensuring accuracy of data.


General

  • Ensure all materials maintain consistency in line with the John Vena, Inc. voice, brand, and style guide.
  • Participate in development of design and brand strategy during annual strategic planning process.
  • Continually develop expertise on the handling and use of a wide variety of specialty fruits and vegetables.
  • Represent JVI in a manner that conveys professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, fairness, personal integrity, and respect for others.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least 2 years' experience in marketing and/or communications
  • At least 2 years' experience in fresh produce, grocery, foodservice, or farming industry preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate about food in a professional setting
  • Proven graphic design experience
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience with e-marketing software and/or database management
  • Experience using social media for business
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail
  • Independent and self-motivated
  • Robust people skills and a positive attitude
  • Excellent technological literacy, comfortable in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Photography experience preferred
  • Experience with video production an added bonus


This is an hourly position on a part time basis (approximately 24 hours/week) with the potential to transition to full time within a year.
