Part-Time Marketing Coordinator

John Vena, Inc., founded in 1919, is a fourth-generation, family-owned-and-operated specialty produce distributor. The company operates from the newly-opened, state-of-the-art Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market on Essington Ave. in Philadelphia, PA.

John Vena, Inc. sources products from around the world and around the corner for a range of clients in retail, foodservice, and processing. Dealing in high-end specialty items including fresh herbs, greenhouse vegetables, baby vegetables, and exotic fruits, the mission of John Vena, Inc. is to provide its customers with the highest quality products and service available.

We are currently seeking an energetic and self-motivated individual prepared to take on challenging, yet exciting, work as a core part of our marketing team. The Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for managing and growing an extensive suite of electronic and print collateral to support the Trading Team and John Vena, Inc. clients. They will have the ability to participate in aesthetic choices and contribute to design process in a meaningful way. With the support and direction of the Director of Marketing, the Marketing Coordinator will leverage their design and communication skills to produce exceptional content for a range of channels, including e-mail and social media. The ideal candidate will be passionate about food and media with a demonstrated ability to successfully communicate about food in a professional setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Collateral & Design

  • Design and create collateral materials, including design, copy writing, and fact-checking.
  • Manage and grow an extensive library of media and collateral for our product lines.
  • Produce professional content for use on the John Vena, Inc. website and social media channels, including photographs, graphics, infographics, and video.
  • Coordinate the work of a small team to manage our online product database, ensuring information is accurate, applicable, and up-to-date.
  • Design print and digital advertisements in collaboration with the Director of Marketing.
  • Work with sales and buying teams to produce a targeted weekly promotional flyer for major foodservice accounts.
  • Develop new promotional programs in collaboration with the Director of Marketing.
  • Provide design support for product and brand development efforts.
  • Support the sales team with copy and media for promotions and customer requests.


  • Oversee the execution of our e-marketing efforts, including coordination of our weekly newsletter.
  • Maintain and enhance our contact database.


  • Ensure all collateral and e-marketing maintains consistency in line with the John Vena, Inc. voice, brand, and style guide.
  • Participate in development of design and brand strategy during annual strategic planning process.
  • Continually develop expertise on the handling and use of a wide variety of specialty fruits and vegetables.
  • Represent JVI in a manner that conveys professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, fairness, personal integrity, and respect for others.


  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least 2 years' experience in marketing and/or communications
  • 2 or more years in fresh produce, grocery, foodservice, or farming industry preferred
