Basil, Opal

Opal Basil is a red or purple relative to green basil. There are several varieties all characterized by a range of color from pale red to dark purple leaves and stems. Leaf shape and size vary somewhat by variety, but most have the distinctive flavor of basil.

Store around 50° F, protect from cold. Opal or Red Basils do not store well for long periods. Opal basil can be used interchangeably with green basil in most recipes.
