The mamey looks like a small football. With its rough, fuzzy brown, inedible skin, the flesh inside is bright orange and tastes like a creamy yam, with undertones of apricot, marischino, almond and honey. Simply remove the large pit and enjoy out of hand, toss into a fruit salad, or blend it into a delicious shake. High in fiber and carbohydrates, mameys ripen at room temperature in about three days.
