Orange, Cara Cara

Resembling a ruby grapefruit in color, the Cara Cara is a medium-sized orange with a wonderful taste! Their rind is a mellow orange with an ruby-pink inner flesh. Their taste is citric and especially sweet. The sweetness is more comparable to a tangerine, as the rind leaves a complex aromatic on your fingertips. They are seedless. When ripe, the flesh is tender and extremely juicy.

Like other citrus, the Cara Cara is a wonderful source of vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber, and potassium.  The pink color of the flesh comes from a carotenoid called lycopene, one of the world's strongest antioxidants.

They are best eaten fresh, out of hand, in juices, jams, sauces, and baked desserts.
